Here at Brightsea, we identified the lack of young blood coming into the industry and three years ago we sought to correct that situation. We found our own youngsters and filled the skills shortage with training from the British Printing Industries Federation (BPIF) and our own highly skilled and experienced members of staff.
Firstly, we trialed the 2 year NVQ level 3 Print Finishing certification with Matthew. During the two year course he showed “enthusiasm and competence” said his BPIF training and technical tutor. Matthew passed his exam with flying colours last year and has continued his development by moving into the press room. He currently runs our five colour Heidelberg press and continues to show enthusiasm and commitment.
Due to the success of the training and the added value to our business, we recruited three more trainees; Lewis, Jessica and Zelah.
Lewis is following in Matthew’s footsteps by working his way through Print Finishing NVQ Level 3. Lewis has been with us for a year now and his enthusiasm is infectious. He approaches every hurdle with a smile and is learning all the time, becoming a vital member of our team.
Zelah joined us in 2013 as our first design apprentice. She has since completed her NVQ Level 3 Diploma in Design and has also passed with flying colours. She has excelled during her time here and has learned to build excellent client relationships and communication skills, as well as furthering her knowledge of design software, including learning web design. Zelah has worked on several fantastic projects including working on small scale jobs, branding and logo design, large format banners and signs. In September she will be attending a graduation ceremony at Plymouth College of Art to celebrate her achievements.
Jessica is undertaking the Print Administration NVQ level 3 course involving health and safety, marketing and accounts roles. Jessica has brought some much needed youthfulness into the office and reduced the average age by many years! She is very bubbly, professional and fully committed to learning and developing in her new role. Both Lewis and Jessica have another year to go but with the help of those around them, the BPIF and their own drive and determination, they will become huge assets to the Brightsea Print Group.
A very big well done to you all!
